In its statement released Monday, the MDTA said it started a $160 million project in the spring of 2024 to evaluate and study bridge protection at the Bay Bridge. The project has since been completed.

Asked about the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, which carries over 350,000 drivers on an average summer weekend, Homendy said that motorists “have to make their own decisions” regarding safety.
