The bridge closing started at 7 a.m. May 1 and could last for up to eight weeks, weather permitting, according to a notice from Wayne County.

The bridge — one of only two ways to get on and off the island — will close to all vehicles and pedestrians at 7 a.m., the Wayne County Department of Public Services said in a statement.
