A massive aquarium inside the lobby of a posh Berlin hotel burst Friday morning, sending over 200,000 gallons of water and 1,500 tropical fish into the streets.

Veterinarians and first responders scrambled to try and save as many surviving fish as they could after a massive aquarium burst in Berlin, sending debris and 1,500 tropical fish into the street.

Up to 90 percent of the 11 million tropical fish that enter the U.S. each year are caught illegally with cyanide, according to a 2008 report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The catastrophic rupture sent 1 million liters of salt water — and fish — pouring into the street. Berlin Police say two people were hurt, the result of glass shards from the aquarium's collapse.

The 82-foot-tall aquarium, a Berlin tourist attraction, contained about 80 types of tropical fish and 264,000 gallons of water before it burst.
