As an alternative, the owner is willing to fund a new sequoia in Green Lake if the city desires. Seattle’s 2023 tree ordinance allows large trees to be cut if they make it impossible to build.

As most tree farms open the day after Thanksgiving, there are few cut-your-own trees in greater Green Bay available before Nov. 29, though many farms offer precut trees beginning earlier in the month.

Beech leaf disease showed up in the U.S. in 2012 when it was discovered in Ohio. It spread rapidly into New England states and to Long Island in New York, then down to the Mid-Atlantic states.

“The biggest effect of Christmas tree harvest on National Forest land is that it gives you a chance to get out in nature with friends and family and enjoy some beautiful scenery,” he said.
