Gov. Greg Abbott made the decision to deploy thousands of Texas Army National Guard soldiers to assist state and local law enforcement.

Gov. Greg Abbott has previously deployed the Texas National Guard and DPS troopers during Black Lives Matter protests and for border control.

The massive deployment represents more than 20% of the state’s military forces and roughly half of the Texas Department of Public Safety commissioned officers.
