A scholar has recently discovered a previously unknown Sumerian myth inscribed on a long-overlooked 4,400-year-old tablet.

He was considered the world’s leading expert on Sumerian, an ancient language of Mesopotamia. He also helped Anchor Brewing re-create a Sumerian beer.

Sumerian is the earliest written language on record, with the first examples dating to about 3000 B.C.E. And it’s a dead language.

This, plus the drink's stress-relieving properties are likely why beer is the most frequently used word in the Sumerian language. This may also explain why Ninkasi existed at all.
