David Johansen, the New York Dolls frontman and “Scrooged” star who also performed as lounge singer Buster Poindexter, announced Monday that he has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and a brain tumor. Johansen, 75, said he is bedridden after breaking his back in a fall in November and requires around-the-clock care.

David Johansen has been fighting through several setbacks regarding his health. The former New York Dolls singer was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and a brain tumor in 2020. Johansen, 75, also suffered a fall in November, where he broke his back in two places. The singer is currently “bedridden and incapacitated” and commands round-the-clock care.

His family is asking for donations to help pay for full-time nursing, physical therapy, and funding for day-to-day living expenses.
