St. Pio of Pietrelcina — better known as Padre Pio — one of the most beloved modern saints in the Catholic Church, was born 137 years ago on May 25 in Pietrelcina, Italy.
A documentary drama about the beloved 20th-century friar St. Pio of Pietrelcina, affectionately known as Padre Pio, will be making its television debut on EWTN on Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. ET.
Beatified in 1999, St. Padre Pio was canonized on June 16, 2002, by the late pope St. John Paul II. He is known among Catholics as St. Pio of Pietrelcina. More than 500,000 attended his canonization.
