The Surface Transportation Board approved the merger of Canadian Pacific Railway and Kansas City Southern Railroad in the nation’s first major rail merger since 1998.

Kansas City Southern has 6,700 miles of track in the U.S. and Mexico. Canadian Pacific has well over twice that mileage, stretching coast to coast across Canada and into the U.S.
