Around 3:30 a.m. Monday, firefighters were extinguishing the blaze in the 7800 block of South South Shore Drive and found a man, 27, unresponsive on the third floor, police said.

The fire broke out in the building located in the 7400 block of South Shore Drive around midnight. People who live in the building say a neighbor was one of the first warnings people got to get out.
