While the details — like the obvious Chaos Emerald energy off to the left — might be slightly different, it is absolutely an homage to the original Sonic the Hedgehog 2 video game box art.

Sonic Origins compiles Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. Each game has been remastered, and you'll be able to play in Classic or Anniversary modes.

It's too expensive, but these four 2D Sonic games have never looked better, and this collection includes some excellent bells and whistles that'll delight longtime fans.

And last year, Bitmap Books released The Art of the Box, collecting more than 350 of them. The 564-page book spotlights 26 illustrators, many of whom made their names on early game box art.
