Snapchat users have complained of seeing their likeness in ads after the images were put through an AI-powered generator in the “My Selfies” tool.
Separately, Snap is also bringing ads to My AI, the chatbot it recently rolled out to all users. There, My AI will be able to surface sponsored links directly in chats with users.
How Snapchat will determine which ads to show users is not clear. The company said its ads would not be “creepy” or “targeted,” probably an allusion to Facebook or Google.
