For Nova Scotians looking to escape the frigid temperatures the province has experienced of late, Shubenacadie Sam had some bad news for them Sunday. Nova Scotia's most famous groundhog is calling for six more weeks of winter.

There’ll be six more weeks of winter. Arguably it’s not Shubenacadie Sam’s fault, he’s just the fur bearer of bad news. On Sunday morning, Sam emerged at the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park and saw his shadow.

Old Folk tales believe if the rodent sees its shadow, it will retreat into its burrow, commanding six more weeks of winter. Without a shadow, spring is just around the corner. Dozens gathered around Shubenacadie Wildlife Park to await the decision, which determined Shubenacadie Sam saw it’s shadow, meaning six more weeks of winter.
