Until '3 Idiots' Khan’s fan following was limited to India and the Indian diaspora. He was completely unknown to most of the world, and especially in China, where Indian films were rarely screened.

Sivan recalls using Angénieux lenses on one of his first films, “Raakh” (1989), starring Aamir Khan, and bought a couple of them subsequently. He’s been using Angénieux lenses ever since.
