Yorkshire Water has been fined £350,000 after a watercourse was polluted with sewage. The spill happened at Foss Dike, near York, in March 2018 close to a faulty pumping station the company knew was broken, the Environment Agency said.

Britain’s biggest water company was fined almost 123 million pounds ($166 million) on Wednesday for releasing sewage into rivers and streams while paying dividends to its shareholders.Industry regulator Ofwat said that Thames Water must pay 104.

The findings came alongside confirmation of a £104.5mn fine for breaking the rules on its waste water operations — the largest penalty that Ofwat has ever issued. Thames Water will also pay an additional £18.2mn fine for paying out millions of pounds in dividends despite the company’s poor performance. Both penalties were consulted on last year.
