Earlier this year, a City of Tucson spokesperson told KGUN 9 the renovations would begin this fall. After last week's closure, community members are question when that's actually happening.

“We realize that Santa Rita Park needs a lot for investment, it’s the heart of a special area of our city,” Mayor Regina Romero said, on a community meeting video call about the park in 2021.

Santa Rita Park will remain closed through Friday Sept. 24 for cleaning according to a city spokeperson. The clearout started early Wednesday morning and the park was cleared before noon.
