In a parallel universe, the 2027 Sundance Film Festival will start with Eugene Hernandez, the festival’s director, welcoming some 2,500 movie lovers seated at Salt Lake City’s Eccles Theater — launching an era in which Utah’s capital becomes the permanent home of America’s premier independent film event.

The NHL team in Salt Lake City is now known as the Utah Mammoth. Owners Ryan and Ashley Smith unveiled the franchise’s permanent name after more than a year of fan input and voting.

Mammoth has been selected as the nickname for Utah's NHL club, the team announced on Wednesday after playing its first season as the Utah Hockey Club.Other finalists for the name were Utah Outlaws and Utah Hockey Club.
