On Tuesday, Phillies slugger Bryce Harper was hit on his surgically-repaired elbow by a 95 mph pitch thrown by Braves ace Spencer Strider. Thankfully, Harper escaped with just a right elbow contusion and Strider — making just his third start since undergoing Tommy John surgery — appeared to regret the incident following the game.
Many have lauded Phillies manager Rob Thomson for this hot start. Thomson took over as manager in 2022 after Joe Girardi was fired, and led the Phillies to the World Series in the fall and the NLCS in 2023. Thomson took advantage of the Phillies' hot start heading into Memorial Day weekend.
