Ringneck & Western Railroad plans a $10.4 million project to replace 44 miles of rail west of Mitchell and stabilize the area where the line crosses the Missouri River, using a $8,310,932 STC grant.
The Federal Railroad Administration on May 20, 2020, approved a special transportation circumstances grant of $1,560,000 toward the $2.5 million project, while the state board agreed to pay $640,000.
Most railroad museums feature and maintain far older, steam locomotives. The WPRM is restoring one of their own, but predominantly what you find here are the hulking diesels of the mid-20th century.
