GOP lawmakers in over 30 states have introduced or passed bills to restrict or regulate diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, according to an NBC News analysis.

What has placed state universities in this predicament is a host of reasons. For starters, inflation-adjusted state funding dropped by 22%, or by $528 million, between fiscal years 2015 and 2023.
