The Northern Illinois Food Bank said demand is at an all-time high. The food bank said it serves 570,000 people a month across 13 counties, and they would be impacted by the funding freeze.

Food banks, like Northern Illinois Food Bank in Geneva, are the unsung heroes in the fight against climate change and world hunger.

"Our greatest concern is that people may choose not to come to us for help out of fear," said Northern Illinois Food Bank CEO Julie Yurko.
