Porsche has just completed restoration of a 924 Carrera GTS rally car. The project was a surprise for the 74th birthday of rally driver Walter Röhrl.

This year, Walter Röhrl and co-driver Christian Geistdörfer are commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Porsche 924 Carrera GTS Rally's successful campaign at the 1981 ADAC Metz Rally.

Röhrl’s car is based on the 924 Carrera GTS homologation special, 50 of which were built for Group 4 racing. In addition, Porsche made nine prototypes, of which Röhrl’s car was the fifth.

Porsche, however, did improve the breed over the years to please performance-oriented enthusiasts. One of the most extreme evolutions of the 924 would be the Carrera GTS.
