The often-criticized “starting strokes” format is being dropped for a regular stroke-play format which gives all 30 players an equal shot to win the FedEx Cup.

The starting-strokes format for the Tour Championship has been eliminated beginning this year, per an approval from The PGA Tour's Player Advisory Council (PAC) and policy board on Tuesday (h/t ESPN's Mark Schlabach).

With the elimination of starting strokes, the FedExCup bonus distributions for the top 30 positions through the postseason finale will be balanced for 2025 to account for the increased volatility, reward season-long performance and recognize the significance of the FedExCup.
