The entire North Rim of the Grand Canyon was closed. The fire had burned between 50 and 80 structures on the North Rim, according to park officials.

A person died at the scene of a crash on State Highway 56 at Tiakitahuna, near Palmerston North, on Monday night. Two vehicles were involved in the accident which also injured three other people.
