The series serves as a prequel to the wildly popular Outlander, which is based on the books penned by American author Diana Gabaldon. Typically, each season of the show corresponds to one book in the series, albeit with some deviations.

“Blood of My Blood” tells the love story of Jamie’s parents, Ellen and Brian, and Claire’s parents, Julia and Henry. The characters are inspired by the stories of Diana Gabaldon but there are no novels for showrunner Matthew B. Roberts to follow. He also is the showrunner of the original series, which debuts its final season early next year.

Speaking of which, Scotland is another major character from the Outlander universe that Blood of my Blood is putting the spotlight back on. Because this prequel isn’t just diving into the youth of the MacKenzie siblings or Murtagh Fitzgibbons, it’s also revisiting the place which captured the minds of the Outlander fandom.
