This week on “ALL OVER THE MAP” Maritime atlases – govt nautical charts in book format for small boats – first appeared in the NW in the 1950s.

PORTLAND — The Northwest fire location map displays active fire incidents within Oregon and Washington. It is compiled by the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center.

The Wilkes Expedition changed the Northwest in 1841, but the only place the explorers left evidence of their travels was miles away, on top of a volcano.
