Nintendo ( NTDOY) on Wednesday announced it will release its highly anticipated Switch 2 console on June 6 for $449. The system is one of two major releases this year, including Take-Two Interactive's "Grand Theft Auto 6," that should help buoy the video game industry, which has dealt with stagnant growth following pandemic era highs.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct has confirmed key factors of the new console including Game Chat, new games, price, release date and more.

The 8-year-old Nintendo Switch is about to get a sequel, and we'll know a lot more on April 2. Nintendo revealed the Switch 2 via a several-minute-long YouTube trailer earlier this year that showed off the new console's contours and a single Mario Kart game but little else.

The new games, Rhythm Heaven Groove and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, are entries for franchises launched on older Nintendo consoles -- the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo 3DS, respectively. Neither has had a new game in a decade.

Now, I’ve not been too fussed about the Switch 2 up to this point. The price point for entry, $449.99, is steep. Horribly steep, actually. And it looks like games will retail at $80 a pop, too. We’re still in the dark about exactly which games will be compatible.

Nintendo has not yet officially revealed or even shown the much-rumored C-button for the Switch 2, save by accident. However, if a wild new rumor is to be believed, the C button may be a surprising return of the Wii U. The rumor comes from Spanish YouTuber eXstas1s, who posted a new video discussing uses of the C button.

In the Nintendo Direct presentation, three of the Nintendo Switch 2’s developers detailed its upgraded graphics, better performance and a more social multiplayer experience —
