Republican Gov. Kelly Ayotte vetoed seven New Hampshire bills, many intended to strengthen parental rights, bucking conservative wing of her party.

In a split with fellow Republicans, New Hampshire Gov Kelly Ayotte vetoed a bill Tuesday that would have authorized parent-led efforts to ban books and other "inappropriate materials" from the state's public schools and libraries.

The book ban bill vetoed by Gov. Kelly Ayotte would have allowed parents to request books, films, and other items that depicted nudity and sexual contact to be removed from their child's school.
