The Willie Nelson mural that sits at 406 E. 7th St. is being demolished after the building that hosted the mural was damaged in a fire last year.

A nearly decade-old Willie Nelson mural is being torn down in Austin as part of a demolition project. Back in February 2024, the Austin Fire Department responded to a fire at 407 E. 7th Street, an abandoned building that formerly housed the Mug Shots bar.

A historic building, known for its nearly decade-old Willie Nelson wall art, is being demolished this week in downtown Austin.

Although the iconic mural on East 7th Street is being demolished, it's not exactly the end of the road for Willie yet.
