My Melody also turns 50 this year while her frenemy Kuromi will celebrate her 20th anniversary, and to celebrate, the pair will be starring in their very own stop-motion series on Netflix.

Netflix’s trailer for My Melody and Kuromi showcases the world of Sanrio characters living in Mariland, with a major focus on My Melody and Kuromi. In the trailer, the characters speak in Japanese.

The series features My Melody, who since her debut in 1975 has continued to be loved by a wide range of fans, and Kuromi, who debuted in 2005 as My Melody’s self-proclaimed rival.

Netflix and Sanrio’s latest anime project couldn’t have come at a better time, with Kuromi and My Melody both celebrating their individual anniversaries in 2025 – 20 and 50 years, respectively.

Le Sserafim, which also includes Kim Chaewon, Sakura, Huh Yunjin and Kazuha, is currently on tour. My Melody & Kuromi streams on Netflix beginning July 24.
