The tree on the mountain predates Cressey’s arrival in Arizona in 2010. He said he came across it while hiking Camelback one day and it helped him through a lonely time in a new city.

"The tree appeared by magic and it’s a magical Christmas tree: If someone takes it down or cuts it in half again, the Christmas tree gods tell me another one will appear in 24 hours," Cressey joked.
