Leonardo da Vinci's famed "Mona Lisa" portrait is getting a new home at Paris' Louvre while the museum undergoes renovations.

One of the most famous paintings in the world, the Mona Lisa, is getting its own room in the Louvre, the museum it lives in in Paris. French President Emmanuel Macron said he was "humbled" to be standing in front of Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece and announced the painting would be getting its own "special space".

President Emmanuel Macron announced plans to alleviate crowds at the Paris museum and to charge higher fees for visitors from outside the European Union.

The leaked memo said the Louvre suffered from “proliferation of damage in museum spaces, some of which are in very poor condition.”
