A new museum in Independence is opening its door for a the first time for National Train Day on May 11.

Officials said Friday this is to make way for the new Missouri Model Railroad Museum. As a result of the move, the Frontier Trails Museum will close to the public starting on July 1.

The move will allow the Missouri Model Railroad Museum to start remodeling the Waggoner-Gates building, located at 318 W. Pacific, with the goal of opening in Spring 2024.

The old water tower next to the Missouri Model Railroad Museum in Independence fell across Osage Street instead of the intended grassy area nearby during a scheduled demolition Tuesday.
