CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WTVD) -- The family of former Miss USA Cheslie Kryst is inviting everybody to celebrate her life at a Charlotte church Friday. Kryst died by suicide on January 30 in New York City.

In 2019, Toni-Ann Singh was crowned as Miss World, along with Miss USA Cheslie Kryst, Miss Teen USA Kaliegh Garris, Miss America Nia Franklin and Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi.
Kryst, 28, is a lawyer from Charlotte; Tunzi, a 26-year-old gender violence activist; and Garris, a 19-year-old Southern Connecticut State University student.

Vanessa Williams was the first black Miss America in 1984; Carole Gist won Miss USA in 1990; Janel Bishop won Miss Teen USA in 1991; and Janelle Commissiong was crowned Miss Universe in 1977.
