Sam Esmail, the celebrated auteur behind the cybersecurity drama Mr. Robot, is working to adapt the 1927 Fritz Lang film Metropolis as a miniseries, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

Sam Esmail’s latest project, “Metropolis,” has landed at Apple ... He was nominated for two Emmy Awards for his breakout series “Mr. Robot,” which also earned star Rami Malek a statuette.

Metropolis has been a passion project for Mr. Robot creator Esmail. He was writer, director and executive producer on the eight-episode series which he had been working on for more than seven years.
