Lester Turilli Jr. hopes to reopen Meramec Caverns by Memorial Day after the caves were closed to the public in March because of unsafe levels of an industrial solvent called trichloroethylene.
Meramec Caverns opened to the public in the 1930s when a tour of the caves cost 5 cents. When the caves reopen, tours will cost $21 for adults and $11 for children.
