The Kiwi bird in the logo, which is New Zealand's national symbol, commemorates Bruce's love for New Zealand, the country he was from. McLaren used this logo from 1963 to 1966.

The current McLaren logo, seen on a 675LT. Stearne theorizes that this "speedmark" was inspired by both the Marlboro chevron and the Speedy Kiwi, and looking at it, it's hard to disagree with him.
