In “Top Gun: Maverick,” Kazansky — who had risen to the rank of admiral — was dying of throat cancer and unable to speak, but wanted to talk with Maverick one final time. During the emotional reunion that took place in a home office, Kazansky gave Maverick the advice, “It’s time to let go.”

While Glen Powell definitely uses a stunt double and has called the Mission: Impossible franchise a “death trap,” when it comes to his approach to making movies, he can definitely compare to the Top Gun movie star. Kilmer passed away April 1 from pneumonia at the age of 65. But, just years before his death, he reprised one of his most iconic roles as Adm. Tom “Iceman” Kazansky for Top Gun: Maverick, marking the final time he and Cruise would appear on screen together.
