Martin returned home and attended the University of Iowa from 1947-1951. There he met his wife, and on March 5, 1948, married Jo Mente. They had two sons and two daughters.

Martin House brewed its first Mustard Beer in 2023. It has been sold out for months, but it becomes available again on Sept. 27, 2024, the first day of the State Fair of Texas.
