Margarito was fighting in the U.S. for the first time since January 2009, when he was found to have a plaster-like substance in his hand wraps before a loss to Shane Mosley.
According to Judd Burstein, the attorney for Mosley, Margarito had wet pads in the wrapping. Mosley’s doctor, Robert Olvera, likened the material to the type of plaster used to make casts.
Margarito is hungry, motivated; he's in great shape and he's a big guy. He's got a great team with him and they've worked hard together and from what I can tell, they had a great camp.
Margarito (38-6, 27 KOs) has a significant size advantage and a remarkable ability to take a punch, but he also has fought just once since his loss to Mosley, winning a tuneup bout in Mexico in May.
Margarito won't be able to fight in the U.S. or in any country that honors U.S. suspensions for at least a year, and perhaps more.
