Chico celebrated the 120th birthday of Bidwell Park on Saturday. On July 10, 1905, Annie Bidwell, the wife of Chico founder John Bidwell, signed a deed gifting the park to the city.

The Bidwell Mansion, a California State Park, was engulfed in flames around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Chico Fire Department Deputy Chief of Operations Chris Zinko told USA TODAY.

The Park Fire was burning close to where the Camp Fire destroyed more than 153,000 acres in Paradise in 2018. Paradise is about a 16-mile drive from Upper Bidwell Park.
