It’s due to wildfire smoke rolling in from Canada. These wildfires are burning in areas of Central Canada along the Canadian Plains. The smoke first moved into the Upper Midwest but has since made its way into the Northeast. An air quality alert has been issued for the coast.

An air quality alert has been issued for the Boston area and other parts of Massachusetts today. And while the region has seen smoke from Canadian wildfires and fires burning in the U.S., that's not what's driving Thursday's warning.

EDT an air quality alert was reported by the National Weather Service in effect until Friday at noon EDT for Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, Isabella, Muskegon, Montcalm, Gratiot,
