The rifle fired incredibly fast 1.6-inch long flechettes which moved at nearly 5,000 feet per second – by comparison, a 5.56mm round from an M16 moves at about 3,000 feet per second.

As far as intermediate-caliber assault rifles go, the M16/M4 is an excellent rifle. The design is small and rather lightweight. It’s cheap to produce and surprisingly accurate for a military rifle.
