Lost Island Themepark opened there in 2022. The 80-acre theme park was the passion project of the Bertch family, owners of the Lost Island Waterpark right next door.

A passerby noticed smoke coming from Lost Island Waterpark, 2225 E. Shaulis Road, around 12:15 p.m. Sunday. Crews with Waterloo Fire Rescue found fire coming from a ceiling in one of the bathhouses.

The Lost Island Theme Park, whose main gate is seen here, opened in 2022. Two of the park’s featured rides, delayed last year, will be ready for riders on opening day.
