According to a social media post, Nick Whitaker has been appointed as a district judge in Letcher County. He replaces Kevin Mullins, who was shot and killed in his chambers in September 2024.

The hearing was held in Carter County, which is about two hours and 30 minutes from Letcher County. Sheriff Shawn “Mickey” Stines is accused of killing District Judge Kevin Mullins.
