San Diego-based La Mesa RV Center has opened a fourth Florida location by leasing the 120,000-square-foot former Sarasota-Bradenton International Convention Center and surrounding 17 acres of land.

La Mesa still operates an RV center in Fort Myers, which Walters believes can handle Sarasota-area customers. Some of the Sarasota employees were offered jobs at other Florida stores, he added.

La Mesa RV began as a simple RV dealership in La Mesa, California, in 1972. It has since moved its headquarters to San Diego and expanded, with dealerships in Florida, Arizona and New Mexico.

She said at least five RVs were destroyed in the blaze. According to the La Mesa RV website, the national RV dealer and sales company is head quartered in California with three locations in Florida.

La Mesa RV has agreed to buy the former Marine Max site at 872 N. Tomoka Farms Road where it plans to open its dealership either late this month or in early March. A sale price was not disclosed.
