A strong Pacific storm with an atmospheric river will continue to pummel California with a threat of flooding rain as feet of snow piles up in the Sierra Nevada through early Friday morning. Of particular concern is heavy rain raising the risk of flooding and debris flows in wildfire-scarred parts of the Los Angeles Basin.

This storm is set to be the strongest this winter across southern California by a wide margin. While the rain is sorely needed (rain since Oct 1 is running at 10-35% of average), it will come with a dangerous threat of mudslides around the recent burn scars.

Most of the California coast is under a flood alert as torrential rain and mountain snow intensified over California Thursday morning, part of yet another atmospheric river storm, bringing a significant risk of flooding and landslides in areas recently affected by devastating wildfires.
