About 7:55 a.m., police officers responded to a Knights Inn Travelodge at 2735 W. Sweetwater Ave. and found Selleys badly beaten and bound by duct tape and extension cords, court records say.

Shortly after midnight, officers responded to reports of shots fired near the Knights Inn hotel next to Interstate 17 and McDowell Road, Lt. Paul Taylor, a Phoenix police spokesman said.
