There's some good news and some bad news for anybody who's been dreaming of a Jeep Wrangler SUV or Jeep Gladiator pickup truck powered by FCA's beastly Hellcat 6.2-liter supercharged V8.
Put it all together and we're looking at a 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V-8-powered Jeep Wrangler 6x6. The vehicle is currently for sale on Craigslist. The Drive first spotted it on Dec. 26.
Like peanut butter and jelly go together, it's only reasonable that Chrysler/Stellantis would consider shoving a Hellcat motor into a Jeep. And they did, with the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Trackhawk.
Jeep has admitted the Wrangler and new Gladiator pickup can stuff parent automaker Fiat Chrysler Automobile's supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V-8 under the hood, but there's a rather large roadblock.
Well, we saw the first running example of that reality, and the sound of that monster V-8 screaming in the engine bay of a customized Jeep JK Wrangler made the hair on the back of our necks stand up.
A Hellcat V-8 Fits In the Wrangler and Gladiator, But It'll Never Make Production In other words, don't expect Jeep to make a Wrangler Rubicon Trackhawk.
But it does suffer from one major problem, one that Jeep will not rectify: It does not come with the 707 horsepower Hellcat motor Stellantis has put in just about everything else it builds in America.
Jeep fans have been wanting a V8 inside the Wrangler for a long time, but as it stands the V6 and turbo four are the only options. A diesel V6 will land at some point, but none of those is a V8.
The Wrangler is also available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, good for 270 hp and 295 lb.-ft. Jeep will add a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 option for the Gladiator in 2020.
