In 2024, Indonesia set a target of welcoming over 670,000 Indian tourists. As of July 2024, 417,703 Indian tourists had visited Indonesia, accounting for 62.64% of this target.

India and Indonesia have been gradually enhancing their security and political ties. The two signed a strategic partnership agreement in 2005 that started an annual strategic dialogue.

US President Donald Trump stated that India is working on a trade deal along the same lines as the one he announced with Indonesia, which will provide the US with greater access to the Indian market.
